Day 5 - Wednesday=Feijoada

There are many who consider feijoada to be Brazil’s national dish. This stew, consisting of beans, pork, and beef was, according to Brazilian legend, invented during the days of slavery when over 3 million slaves were brought from Africa to work on plantations for mining, cotton, and sugar cane production. Beans were a very common part of the slaves’ diet during the time and legend has it that on special occasions, this typical bean diet would benefit from leftover scraps of beef and pork meat coming from their masters’ kitchens.

Before

Ingredients
Rice - Rice
Feijoada - Black beans stew (w/ pork and beef)
Crispi banana - deep fried bananas
Frango - Chicken
Linguicu - Sausage
Potato salad
And some green stuff :)

Since feijoada is rather “heavy” (i.e. food coma inducing) it’s only consumed occasionally - once or twice a week; typically Wednesdays and/or Saturdays at lunch time. I won’t say how long it took me to recover but what’s even funnier is that Creso Chavez, CEO of Pixel Labs, and my lunch buddy, was disappointed that the feijoada we had was “light”. He has already promised a heavier version of the dish next week and based on what I experienced today, I am just planning to work a half day next Wednesday.

After

Fun fact - Most of the Thai, Indian, Chinese, Japanese and German restaurants in town have it on their menu on Wednesday and Saturday.
